Insidious Venomstone: How to Get It — All 3 Routes (Season 2)
The Insidious Venomstone is the Season 2 cosmetic everyone is asking about, and the answer to "how do I get it" is less obvious than it looks: it is not the reward for any single activity. It comes from the achievement Sssensational!, which you complete by finishing any one of three other achievements — one in Mythic+, one in the raid, one in PvP.
What the Insidious Venomstone does
The tooltip, verbatim:
Use: Infuse your armor with a faint echo of the Venomous Abyss, unlocking additional visual effects for certain Midnight Season 2 class set appearances.
This effect is Warband-wide.
Two things follow from that. It is purely cosmetic — it changes how certain Season 2 class set appearances look, not your stats. And because the effect is Warband-wide, earning it once should be enough: the item binds to the character that gets it, but the tooltip says the visual unlock applies Warband-wide.
Blizzard's tooltip does not list which class sets get the extra effects or what they look like, so we don't either. Check the item page on Wowhead for community screenshots.
The three routes
| Route | Achievement | What it takes |
|---|---|---|
| Mythic+ | Midnight Keystone Hero: Season 2 | 2,500 rating |
| Raid | Mythic: Ula'tek | Kill Ula'tek, the final boss of the Venomous Abyss, on Mythic difficulty |
| PvP | Elite: Midnight Season 2 | Earn Elite in Season 2 rated PvP |
Mythic+: 2,500 rating
For most players this is the route within reach. 2,500 rating is a fixed gate — no leaderboard, no percentile, no competing with the rest of your region — and every timed key moves you toward it. It is also the route that pays you along the way: the same keys fill your Great Vault every week. The full rating ladder, and what each rung awards, is in our Season 2 Mythic+ rewards guide.
Raid: Mythic Ula'tek
A Mythic kill of the final boss is Cutting Edge content — it needs a full, organised Mythic roster and weeks of progression, which is why it is the hardest of the three for anyone not already in a Mythic guild. If you are, the Venomstone comes alongside the rest of the Mythic rewards. Our Venomous Abyss page covers what the raid awards and how raid bookings work.
PvP: Elite
Elite: Midnight Season 2 is the rated-PvP achievement on the list. It is a genuine route if you already play rated PvP seriously; for everyone else it is a climb in a different game mode. We don't sell PvP.
Which route should you take?
- Already pushing keys? Mythic+ — you are likely closer to 2,500 than to the other two.
- In a Mythic raiding guild? The Ula'tek kill gets you there with no extra work.
- High-rated PvP player? Elite, if you were going to chase it anyway.
- None of the above, short on time? A Keystone Hero push is the most predictable way to buy it.
Whichever you pick, the effect is Warband-wide — so put it on whichever character is closest.
Getting it with a Keystone Hero push
Our Keystone Hero package ($39) takes your character from wherever you are to 2,500 rating — weakest dungeons first, since that is where each timed key moves your score the most. Timed-or-free on every key, and we beat any competitor's Keystone Hero price by 5%. Questions about your starting rating go in Discord.
FAQ
How do you get the Insidious Venomstone?
Complete the achievement Sssensational!, which needs any ONE of three: Midnight Keystone Hero: Season 2 (2,500 Mythic+ rating), Mythic: Ula'tek (killing the final boss of the Venomous Abyss on Mythic), or Elite: Midnight Season 2 in PvP. Any one of the three is enough.
What does the Insidious Venomstone do?
Its tooltip reads: "Infuse your armor with a faint echo of the Venomous Abyss, unlocking additional visual effects for certain Midnight Season 2 class set appearances. This effect is Warband-wide." It is a cosmetic — it changes how the Season 2 class sets look, not how your character performs.
Is the Insidious Venomstone account-wide?
The item itself is Binds when picked up, but its tooltip says the visual effect is Warband-wide — so earning it once, on one character, should cover your whole Warband.
Does Keystone Hero give the Insidious Venomstone directly?
Not directly. Midnight Keystone Hero: Season 2 publishes no reward of its own — it is one of the three qualifying achievements for Sssensational!, and Sssensational! is what awards the Venomstone. Reaching 2,500 rating completes both in practice.
