Midnight Season 2 opened on 18 August, and the first verified tier lists are out. The short version: the meta has a clear best tank and best healer, and a DPS field with no runaway winner. Rankings below are taken from Wowhead's Season 2 tier lists as checked on 1 September 2026 — not from our own theorycrafting — and we only restate the tier leaders that multiple sources agree on. Tuning moves fast in the first months of a season; treat anything more granular than this with suspicion, here or anywhere else.

Tanks: Blood Death Knight stands alone

Blood DK is the season's only S-tier tank so far. Self-healing that scales with the bigger Season 2 pulls and strong control tools put it ahead of the pack. Protection Paladin is the common “practical pug pick” — a step behind in raw power, but its party utility (immunities, auras, off-healing) makes messy pug runs smoother.

What it means for you: if you tank your own keys, Blood DK is the safest reroll. If you don't want to tank at all, this is the classic season to rent a tank — one meta-geared Blood DK in the group stabilizes every pull, and it costs about half of a full carry because you bring the rest of the party.

Healers: Holy Paladin, with a pug-friendly runner-up

Holy Paladin is the only S-tier healer this season. The interesting nuance from the published lists: Restoration Shaman keeps getting flagged as the safer pick for pug groups, because it brings Bloodlust, a real interrupt, and poison cleansing in one slot — three things a random group can't assume anyone else covers.

DPS: no S-tier — and that's good news

No DPS spec holds S-tier in Season 2 so far. Arms Warrior and Arcane Mage lead the A+ bracket, but the gap to the field is small. A flat DPS meta means the spec you actually know how to play is worth more than the spec at the top of a list — reroll pressure is the lowest it has been in several seasons.

How much does the meta actually matter?

  • Buying a carry? Almost not at all. Our squad brings the tank, the healer, and the composition — you bring whatever character you want geared or rated. Class anxiety is a pug problem, not a carry problem.
  • Pushing 2,000–2,500 in pugs? Moderately. Group leaders filter hardest at the rating brackets around Keystone Master and Keystone Hero, where an off-meta spec means slower invites, not impossibility.
  • Pushing title range? Heavily. At the top of the ladder, comp is part of the puzzle — which is why our percentile push packages are run with squad compositions built around the current patch, not around last month's list.

Where the Season 1 list went

The Season 1 tier list stays up as an archive — spec tuning did not carry over, so read it as history. This page is the live one; we re-check the published rankings periodically and note the date at the top whenever the leaders change.
